the Baileys were I suspect the Grandparents of Margaret and Emma Bailey who appeared in many performances at the Theatre Royal around the turn of the century 1900, one of them as a Male impersonator was the mother of the comedian Joe Black

I have a copy of the same invitation. They were my great grandparents. There are lots of pictures in the archive under "Theare Royal" ( The Peeps ) I was led to believe after "The People's Theatre " but not sure of that. Drink must have been served as my father Harry Bailey remembers playing among the beer crates under the counter at the back of the theatre. My grandfather ,their son
Ernest, was a keen amateur boxer. One time an actor came in a touring play said "I hear you like to do a bit of boxing " They set to and Grandad gave him a black eye. My dad was sent to the butchers for a steak to put on it. They later had it for tea. Waste not want not..
Joe Black ( Blackburn ) worked in theatre all his life. His TV included Coronation St and the film "Ready when you are Mr Magill "
When Joe was appearing in the theatre in Leeds he brought Harry Houdini home for tea. Wish I'd been there
